We are looking for volunteers to help The Prisoners Hope support merchandise retailing at the 150th, 2024 Kentucky Derby. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, meet new people, and contribute to the success of the event that raises much needed funds for the ministry work. Opportunities are available before and during Derby week including setting up merchandise displays, stocking items, and selling authorized Derby merchandise to customers. It’s easy to sign up to work in shifts on days you are available. And who wouldn’t want the chance to be at iconic Churchill Downs and soak up the Derby atmosphere!

No previous experience is necessary, but we do require that you have excellent customer service skills, the ability to work well in a team, and a positive attitude. We also ask that you are punctual, reliable, and committed to working the shift(s) you sign up for. And, you must also be at least 16 years of age.

Volunteering at the Kentucky Derby is a fantastic way to make a difference by supporting The Prisoners Hope as we help men, women and families who have experienced incarceration return to a productive place in the community.

Whether you are a student, a retiree, or simply love to be around horse racing, we welcome you to join us and be part of this incredible experience.

  • Meet just outside GATE 17 (Security Gate) at Churchill Downs.

    Once you arrive at Churchill Downs, you can park anywhere that is not fenced off in the main parking lot.

    The easiest way to find Gate 17 is to look for Parking Sign W11. Volunteer coordinators

  • Arrive 30 Mins before your shift

  • Arrive at Kentucky Exposition Center Gate 4 (Central Ave and Crittenden Drive) and Go to Parking Lot N as seen below.
    This Lot is designated for Derby Staff Parking.

    NOTE: Do NOT Pay for parking.

    Let the gate staff attendant know you are there for the shuttle to Work at the Derby for Fanatics, Inc.

  • There will be a Shuttle to pick you up and take you to the Churchill Downs Shuttle Depot Area (Service Gate 17) near Parking Marker W7.

    This is where we will meet the Organizers Fanatics and Go Ministries.

  • The Meeting Point will be right next to a tent with a sign for Staff, Vendor, and Media Entrance” – DO NOT go through the gate until you meet the group.

  • If you have any questions Call/Text: Justin Hemming ‪(502) 830-4865 or Shay (217) 691-4935‬. You will meet either one of them at the Meeting Point and they will provide the credentials needed to enter Churchill Downs.

  • Uniform: You need to wear Khaki or Black pants (Will NOT be provided); an official “Kentucky Derby 150” t-shirt will be provided for you to wear once you are at your location. Women are allowed to wear capri pants.
    Wear comfortable shoes–you will be on your feet for most of your shift.

  • Dinner/Snacks: Snacks and water will be provided at all locations, and you will be able to take breaks as needed. A GO Ministries Staff Member will be at each location. They will be your point person for break and lunch rotations. Dinner options will be available at your own expense at any of the open vendors around the track.

  • Point of Sale (POS) System: Fanatics only accepts credit/debit card transactions. There will be a Fanatics manager at each location to help troubleshoot any problems with registers. A GO staff member or Fanatics manager will train you the morning of your shift on how to use the registers.

  • At the end of your shift, you will be dismissed by your location leader and will take the shuttle bus back to your car. Shuttles run approximately every 10 minutes and will run all night, so you will still have transportation if your shift runs a little late.

NOTE: BE SURE To place our letters “TPH” before your first name so we get credit for each volunteer.
